Central Events
At the heart of the Festival is the London Mozart Player’s Anthem for Peace 
which people will learn together with LMP Players and Ecclesbourne Primary School Choir at the Festival Launch at Summer of Love Festival Wandle Park on June 16.

The Festival Finale will take place at Peace and Wellbeing Festival, Park Hill Park on 23 June and feature a performance of the Anthem with LMP Brass players and local brass groups and a dance commission by Anusha Subramanyam performed by local cross-cultural dance groups.

This event is followed by the Faiths Together in Croydon interfaith bike ride and picnic in Park Hill Park on June 24.

Death Cafes
Death Cafes are held at various venues across the borough.

The next is at Selsdon Library on June 1 from 5-6.30pm. 

There are death cafes held in New Addington at The Octagon every fourth Friday of the month. Details here.

Dog Awareness Event
An event run by the Croydon Council Dog Warden and The Dogs Trust at Duppas Hill Rec from 11am to 3pm. On June 1. For more details, click here

The low-cost neutering scheme has been extended and will run throughout 2018.

 

Norbury Green RA coffee mornings

These run the first Saturday of each month in Norbury Library.  The next is this Saturday.

David Lean Screenings
It’s always worth booking early as screening are very popular. View the June screenings here.  The July screenings will go on sale on 7 June.

 

 

Friends of Thornton Heath Rec meeting 
A meeting to relaunch the friends group will be held on 7 June from 7-8.30pm and everyone is welcome. Details here.

 

City Commons events
A variety of events are run. The next events are a flower walk on Coulsdon Common on June 3,  a  flower and butterfly walk on Riddlesdown Common on 9 June, a bat walk on Riddlesdown Common on 15 June in the evening and a flower walk on Farthing Downs on June 16.

 

Croydon Environmental Fair
This is being held on Saturday 9 June in Wandle Park from 10am to 5pm. Details here.

 

 

 

Carers Week
This will run from 11-17 June.  The Carers Support Centre is running a wide range of events. See details here.

 

 

Policing in Croydon
Croydon Safer Neighbourhoods Board meeting
The next meeting is on Thursday 14 June.  The Board is funded by the Mayor’s office for Policing and Crime, and aims to give the borough’s residents a voice on safety and policing issues and to hold the police and their partners to account.

This meeting is the AGM and it will be held in the Council Chamber in Croydon Town Hall at 6.30pm. Click here for details. 

Local policing team newsletters
Anyone can sign up to receive these newsletters and occasional important updates from their local policing team. Newsletters also contain details of ward panel meetings.  Local policing teams are keen to hear from residents and business owners/workers on their priorities and concerns for the ward.

CCC post all local policing team ward newsletters on the website, but in order to avoid delay and to ensure that people receive important updates as soon as they are released, do sign up directly with the local policing team to get the information as soon as it is released.

SE Cancer Help Centre Fashion Show
This fundraiser is being run in Purley on Saturday 16 June.  Doors open at 2.30 to 3pm.  Tickets are £10 and on sale now. Details here

Croydon Festival of Peace

A week of activities at different venues involving various groups in Croydon.

Launch – Saturday 16 June, Summer of Love, Wandle Park – Everyone is invited to come and learn the Anthem with Ecclesbourne School and LMP from 3-4pm.  During the week – The Anthem will be distributed throughout schools and individuals and groups are invited to create their own versions of it.

Finale – Saturday 23 June within the Festival of Peace and Wellbeing at Park Hill Park – Finale performance from 3-4pm with LMP, local brass groups and a dance choreographed by Anusha Subramanyam performed by local multicultural dance groups. See details in the notes of our January meeting.

Faiths Together in Croydon Bike Ride and Picnic – Sunday 24 June
Join the bike ride, with three different starting points, or go along to the picnic at the end of the ride in Park Hill Park from 2pm.  All welcome.

Janet Smith has launched Croydon Arts Show.  Check it out for podcasts of interviews, reviews, listings of events and more. 

 

Purley Food Hub
Purley Food Hub serves people across Croydon. They are always looking for donations to support their work in order to deal with increasing demand. A list of items sought each month is produced.  Find the list for June here.

 

 

 

 

Black History Month

 

This year’s theme is ‘Heroes to Heritage’. The month will be launched on October 2 at Tomorrow Café at 6pm, followed by a month of varied activities.

 

 

 

SNARL and the cat killer

The UK cat killer is still active.

Please help South Norwood Animal Rescue and Liberty (SNARL) who are working with the police to catch the person or persons responsible and alert others so they can keep their pets safe

To be held at The Brit School on 21 July 2018 and open to Croydon youth 11-24 years of age.  There are limited places so booking is essential.

We are delighted that we will be joined by Katie Rose who is directing Croydon’s first Festival of Peace – 16 to 23 June 2018 – an invitation to our community to reflect on peace through vibrant cross-cultural participatory arts.

World-class artists will collaborate with leading community partners to create large-scale imaginative events and enduring commissions including the London Mozart Player’s Anthem For Peace, a Peace Garden at Park Hill Park and innovative artwork commissioned by Rise Gallery.

This is an event for all, where everyone can get involved or take part, so come along to find out more!

 

If time allows, the rest of the meeting will be devoted to any subject offered for discussion or notice that people attending wish to raise. Please leave details as a comment on this post, or email us. These will be given priority on the night.

Our meetings are open to all and are strictly apolitical.

Doors open at 7pm, when tea and coffee will be available and you’ll have the chance to meet and chat with others attending. We’ll have local information on display for you to take away.

The meeting will start by 7.30pm, ideally earlier.

There will be brief introductions and notices.

Invited speakers will then speak and take questions.

If time allows, the meeting will then be open for you to share your views, offer a notice or propose a topic for discussion, with priority given to those suggested prior to the meeting.

The meeting will finish by 9pm. If possible, we endeavour to finish slightly earlier to allow people to chat after the meeting and for clearing away.

Getting there:
There is no general parking available at this venue, but its central location with good transport links. We may be able to cater for blue badge holders, so please get in touch well ahead of the event if this applies to you.

The hall is to the rear of the Church, accessed through the gate in the fencing to the left of the main Church entrance.
