Notes of meeting – Purley – July 2014

Thanks to everyone who attended our meeting in Purley and to the businesses, organisations and individuals who helped us advertise the event.

Notes of Meeting
Here are the notes of the meeting held: Notes of Purley 8Jul14 v2

Events this weekend
Since our meeting CCC had been made aware of two further events this weekend, which we’ve promoted via social media.

Thornton Heath Arts Week launches this Saturday, 19 July.

South Norwood Arts Festival  concludes this Sunday.

There is also the South End Food Festival this Sunday, as mentioned in our meeting.

There are, however, questions now being asked about the West Croydon Carnival of Cultures mentioned at our meeting. These include lack of advertising, a good deal of conflicting information, lack of engagement of local businesses and local people, and lack of clarity regarding who is behind the event. Why there are such inconsistencies is unclear at this point.
If anyone knows any more please let us know.

Next public meeting

Our next event is in September in Addiscombe. As with all our events everyone is very welcome to attend. Booking via Eventbrite is appreciated to help us cater for numbers.

Stop the South London Incinerator Campaign

dirty water dirty airThe building of an incinerator on the borders of Croydon has been given the go ahead by the neighbouring borough of Sutton. The issue has been raised at our meetings by those attending, and also at hustings prior to the local elections.

The decision is now subject to a judicial review as a result of Shasha Khan challenging the decision. He is currently seeking support to fund his legal costs.
