Dementia-friendly screenings at The David Lean continue into 2020

The special Dementia-friendly screenings at the David Lean Cinema continue each month in 2020, in association with Croydon Dementia Action Alliance.

These Dementia Friendly screenings aim to make cinema more accessible by providing a fun and inclusive experience to enable people living with dementia, their families and carers to attend the cinema in a safe and welcoming environment. The lights are left on low, there are no adverts or trailers and the audience is allowed to move around or even sing along to any musical numbers if they’d like to.

Admission is £1 on the door for people with dementia (their carers get free entry). Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available before the screening.

The dates and titles of the first few films are available for booking.

Bookings for these special screenings is via Eventbrite.

TfL’s proposed changes to 404 and 434 bus routes delayed to April 2020

Between 9 January and 11 February 2019 TfL consulted on changes to bus routes 404 and 434.

Due to that feedback they altered the original proposal to suggest using Farthing Way (Coulsdon Bypass) on route 404 and asked for comments by 11 December 2019.

They received 13 comments although only two of those were about the use of Farthing Way. One was supportive and the other suggested the 404 should use Woodcote Grove Road and The Avenue instead of Farthing Way.

This option was considered. However, using the bypass is preferable as it enables a shorter run time and allows the route to quickly serve central Coulsdon and Coulsdon South station. The 404 will still serve the town centre, just not the current northbound stops.

The other feedback repeated comments raised in the original consultation, including concerns about the appropriate siting of new bus stops in Cane Hill and Old Coulsdon, road safety in winter and road maintenance.

These issues are currently being discussed with the council and the developer of Cane Hill Park. Because of this and related road works the proposed implementation of the changes has been moved from 4 January 2020 to April 2020.
