The Croydon Peace Tree project was started back in August 2012.Messages of peace for International Peace Day, which is marked on 21 September each year, were collected from people in Croydon, a year after the London riots in 2011. Some of those who sent in their messages were business owners, such as Graham Reeves, who experienced their businesses being damaged, ransacked and looted during the riots.
