Victim Support’s ‘You & Co’, supporting young victims of crime (4-17yrs), now in Croydon

Monique Smith has been appointed as the Youth Advocate for Croydon borough with Victim Support. Her primary focus is on supporting children and young people affected or at risk of SYV (Serious Youth Violence) in Croydon as part of Victim Support’s youth programme, You & Co.

Notes of meeting – New Addington – June 2015

IMG_6218Thanks to everyone who attended our meeting in New Addington on 3 June 2015.

Special thanks to:

  • Mrs Cefai, the Headteacher of  Wolsey Infant and Nursery School who provided use of the school hall for the meeting and advertised the event.
  • The caretaker, Mr Goodier, who handled all the set -up and clearing away on the night, including facilities for refreshments.
  • Chief Inspector Peter McGarry and Inspector Claire Robbins of Croydon Metropolitan Police who attended and took questions on policing matters on an evening they had several meetings to attend as well as their regular duties.

Items followed up as a result of this meeting:

MPS Croydon’s BBC documentary ‘The Met’ screening and discussion events – These events have been advertised and CCC have promoted the events and taken bookings, as agreed. See: ‘The Met’ events in Croydon

There are still three events remaining, all on Wednesday evenings at the David Lean Cinema.  They are free and offer the ideal way for the general public to engage and provide feedback to the Croydon Metropolitan Police.

Grass cutting – no feedback as yet

Update from Cllr Kyeremeh – Time will be made available for Cllr Kyeremeh to speak at the AGM and at future meetings to provide the updates promised at this meeting.

Skanska – A meeting will be set up to pursue this issue in the future, although, due to time constraints, this issue will not be an agenda item for scrutiny committee until 2016.

Cllr Fitzsimons offered the following update on the matter:
