Updates and notices of meeting – 10 May 2017

Thank you!
Thanks to those who attended our meeting on Rubbish in Croydon – Refuse, recycling and fly-tipping.

Thanks too to everyone who booked a place ahead of the night and to the kind attendees who stepped in to help in a variety of ways on the night, including setting up, clearing away and covering the registration desk. It was appreciated.

One of the issues discussed on the night. Black bags of domestic waste dumped one night, torn apart by foxes during the night before they could be cleared.

A display of local information was made available on the night, with copies to take away.

NOTICES & UPDATES
Here are the updates and notices of meeting.

The notes of meeting will follow, followed by a council response to questions and points made at the meeting.

Updates from previous meetings

Croydon Air Quality plan
Cllr Stuart King responded promptly to a query arising from the last meeting. Residents will have the opportunity to contribute to the Air Quality Action Plan but the consultation has been postponed due to the election.

Saffron Central
Saffron Central is the brainchild of Ally McKinlay, who crowdfunded for a  pop-up crocus farm on the empty Taberner House site. As building work has not yet started, Saffron Central have had an extension. To link with Croydon Pride on 15 July, which will be held in Queens Gardens, Ally is working on a Hearts and Flowers theme, to link with Croydon PrideFest and the Croydon Summer of Love festival being held in Wandle Park.

Work starting this Saturday, 13 May with tasks such as clearing crocuses and preparing the planting aisles. All are welcome to get involved in this community venture. Why not pop along and find out more? Donations of flowering plants, durable artwork linking to the theme, offers of help or donations all welcome!

This is just the first of many sessions where the community can get involved.  See the post here for more details.

Details of South Norwood Animal Rescue and Liberty (SNARL)‘s work on the cat killer and copies of the flyers to download have been added to the CCC website. See: https://croydoncc.wordpress.com/2017/03/11/the-cat-killer-info-reward-for-info-and-what-you-can-do-to-help/

All were asked to keep spreading the word and to follow the advice given to keep pets safe. Flyers were also available at the meeting to take away.

SNARL are looking for people willing to help leaflet areas in Croydon.

If interested, contact CCC who can pass details on.

Purley Food Hub
Thanks were given to people who had brought along items to the meeting to donate.  Purley Food Hub serves Croydon and the organisation is always looking for donations to support their work. A list of items sought each month is produced.  Find the list for May here.

The Refugee Centre in West Croydon also seeks donations and CCC are currently waiting to receive an updated leaflet.

Local policing team newsletters
Anyone can sign up to these newsletters and occasional important updates from their local policing team. Newsletters also contain details of ward panel meetings.  Local policing teams are keen to hear from residents and business owners/workers on their priorities and concerns for the ward.

CCC post all local policing team ward newsletters on the website, but in order to avoid delay and to ensure that people receive important updates as soon as they are released, do sign up directly with the local policing team (previously called the Safer Neighbourhood team) to get the information as soon as it is released.

Find all newsletters, here.

Membership
If you wish to support our work, why not take up membership?
