RAW Silence art exhibition – 30 November onwards – submissions sought

Imagine Independence with the support of South London and Maudsley NHS (SLAM NHS) is hosting a community art exhibition entitled RAW Silence. The aim of the exhibition is to promote social inclusion and offer mental health service users from Croydon the opportunity to showcase their artwork alongside artists from within the Croydon Community.

Lee Townsend, the Imagine inclusion worker based in Croydon, explains,

“We believe that the client group with which we work are often marginalised and unfortunately in many cases also stripped of their dignity.  As part of our ethos here at Imagine we see it as fundamental to promote social inclusion and to aid people who are experiencing mental health difficulties in having a voice rather than feeling compelled to suffer in silence while feeling isolated on the periphery of society.

It is based on this that we would like to invite artists from all walks of life to share a piece of their artwork with us to be exhibited during the RAW Silence exhibition.

The start of the exhibition will be marked with a launch event at the Alchemy Bar and Restaurant, in St Georges Walk on Wednesday 30th November 2016 from 6pm – 9pm. This will take the form of a poetry jam. We would love to see you there and if you would like to read or perform a poem, please do let me know as soon as possible.”

The RAW Silence exhibition will run from Wednesday 30th November until Tuesday 6th December 2016 across the following three venues:

i.)                The Alchemy Restaurant and Bar

ii.)               The Green Dragon Pub

iii.)             The Click Clock Gallery (will run for a total 6 weeks)

Any form of ready to hang artwork that is no larger than A2 (16.5 x 23.4 inches) will be accepted. This may include but is not limited to paintings, illustrated poetry, drawings, and photographs.

If you wish to exhibit, please complete the RAW Silence submission form which must accompany any artwork.

Work for submission can be dropped off up until Wednesday 23rd November 2016 at Imagine’s office between Monday-Friday  from 9am – 5pm to

Imagine Independence
CVA Resource Centre
82 London Road

The centre is a short walk from West Croydon bus garage.  There is some ‘pay and display’ on street parking outside the centre also.

Please ensure that your name is printed on the back of any work submitted and that your work is accompanied by a submission form.
