The Dog Awareness event in Lloyd Park, Croydon was a great success!

Croydon Council dog warden service works in close partnership with Dogs Trust to help promote responsible dog ownership. They held a Dog Awareness Event in Lloyd Park yesterday which was a great success.

Tara Boswell, Croydon Dog Warden reports,
“Yesterday’s event in Lloyd Park went really well, the sun came out and we micro-chipped 12 dogs, updated the microchip details for 6 and handed out 11 low-cost neutering vouchers. Some dogs also had a go at our fun agility.”

“By preventing unwanted litters and ensuring dogs within the borough are microchipped and up to date, we are able to help tackle the problem of unwanted strays and reunite missing dogs with their owners much faster without the need for kennelling, so this was a great outcome.”

They are also running a ‘£35 Neutering’ initiative during 2017 and it is not too late to see if you qualify for help.

There is a UK wide overpopulation of unwanted dogs and although this is due to a large number of unscrupulous backyard breeders, there are also many owners who would like to have their dog neutered but simply cannot afford it, which leads to accidental litters, continuous straying, dog thefts and unneutered dogs being sold to new owners, antisocial behaviour involving dogs and dangerous dogs so it is hoped that this initiative will help curb these problems. *Did you know that as of 6th April 2016, all dogs must be microchipped by law?
