Croydon Saffron Central update, including how to get involved and Croydon Pridefest

Croydon Saffron Central is being entered again in the RHS London In Bloom ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood Awards’.

Last year Saffron Central received a Level 4 Award of ‘Thriving’ with 79%!  It was judged again on 30th June 2017!

The rationale for the Hearts and Rainbows theme is that this year sees not only the 50th Anniversary of ‘The Summer of Love’ but that the site will also be next door to Croydon PrideFest 2017 on the 15 July 2017. What better way could the community & Croydon Saffron Central embrace this than by showing some love and creating a giant rainbow flag?

The idea is simple, from left to right (facing St Georges House) each bed will house – Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue & Violet flowering plants.

Here’s one the founder of Saffron Central, Ally McKinlay, prepared earlier.

Thursday 13th July – Private view – 6pm – 8pm

A chance to see the ‘Chasing Rainbows’ space before the Pridefest & the very last opportunity to add a plant or art installation (ideally already potted as this is a celebration & not a work day!

Saturday 15th July – Pridefest – 11am – 1pm

Saffron Central has been advised to open and close early as the party will no doubt gather momentum over the day.

Crocus Corms – If people would like to take some away they are most welcome as they are in a dormant state at the moment.  We have lots of paper bags from the Croydon Heritage Festival!!!
