Whitgift Exhibition Centre: Remembering 1916 – Life on the Western Front, open until 16 April 2017, now with free entry!

The Whitgift School in South Croydon is hosting a major exhibition, Remembering 1916 – Life on the Western Front.

The exhibition has received rave reviews, including featuring in the Sunday Telegraph, The Times, Evening Standard, The Big Issue and this one in the Londonist!

It brings together an outstanding range of original artefacts, including objects, photographs, letters, uniforms and memorabilia. These are drawn chiefly from private collectors, British Pathé and the Whitgift School archive. Remembering 1916 is the first and only time these artefacts will be seen together, to tell the story of this pivotal year of the War.

The Exhibition explores the political and social background to key events in 1916, using the contemporary voices of British, French and German soldiers and their families.

There is an Edwardian-themed café, offering cream teas and a selection of sandwiches, and the adjoining shop sells World War One themed merchandise.
