Their latest festive project is the ‘Neuter your Bull Breed for Christmas’ initiative. There will be 500 low-cost neutering vouchers available as part of the initiative, allowing owners of bull breeds living in a Croydon postcode to get their dog neutered for just £35 at any one of the participating vets. This procedure normally costs between £200- £500, depending on the size of the dog, so this is a huge saving!
Dog Warden, Tara Boswell says,
There is a UK-wide overpopulation of bull breeds and around 75% of the strays I collect in our borough are bull breed type dogs. Although this is mainly due to a large number of unscrupulous backyard breeders, there are also many owners who would like to have their dog neutered but simply cannot afford it. Not neutering your dog can lead to accidental litters, continuous straying, dog thefts ans unneutered dogs being sold to new owners, antisocial behaviour involving dogs and dangerous dogs.
I hope this initiative will help curb these problems.
Owners will have until January 31, 2017 to redeem their voucher.
I will also be monitoring our stray puppy intake over the Christmas and New Year period to see if this has any effect on our stray numbers.
