Crime prevention message from Croydon BID relating to Divali

“Dear residents,

Here is a crime prevention message that I would like to share with the Asian community but with particular focus on the Hindu community with Diwali approaching.

Over the course of the weekend and this week we have suffered an increase in street robberies. Suspects driving mopeds have targeted victims in Lewisham and Croydon who were on route to the temple, they have stolen jewellery in the course of these offences.

The purpose of this email isn’t to alarm you but to forewarn you that despite our best efforts these individuals remain unidentified at this time. We have invested significant local resources to trace them but this has been unsuccessful. I therefore would like to remind you of some key crime prevention messages:

  • Please be cautious about displaying expensive jewellery in public.
  • Be aware of your surroundings at all time with particular consideration of routes to and from places of worship.
  • Please report any suspicious activity either via 101 (non-emergency) or 999, as appropriate.

As soon as I have any further information I will share this with you.

Kind regards,

D/CI Richard McDonagh”
