Here’s the latest update from the local policing team for Selhurst.

Dear Selhurst Community Member,
Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond to the last email regarding the joint initiative between the Selhurst Police Team and Croydon Council to combat fly tipping and littering in Selhurst. We have had an overwhelming response; this is clearly an issue that is impacting much of the community, and that people feel strongly about.
We have collated all of the useful information you have provided and are using this, along with data on historic fly tipping locations (held by the Council) to target the worst affected areas.
Over the coming months we will be enacting a range of responses tackle this issue. These include, but are not limited to: proactive joint patrols between police and environmental enforcement officers, aiming to seize unlicensed waste carrying vehicles and prosecute offenders, overt and covert monitoring of fly tipping hotspots, providing new bins on pavements where littering is prevalent, installing anti-fly tipping signage on affected streets, a regeneration project of the alleyway between Clifton Road and the Sainsbury’s car park, quality assurance checks on bin collection contractors, and improving awareness among the community of the waste disposal options available.
Furthermore, we would like to initiate community cleanups, led by local residents, across the ward. This is where your help and support can make a real difference. We are calling for volunteers to become Street Champions, and to lead initiatives for their local street or area. Each Street Champion will be supported by the Council’s ‘Don’t Mess With Croydon’ Team, who will also provide all the necessary materials. It will just be a case of choosing a date and mobilising as many members of your community to come together for a few hours to help tidy up your area. We at Selhurst Police also commit to come and get involved in any cleanup events that are organised.
If you are interested in becoming a Street Champion, or would like to help in any other way, please respond to this email address.
Many thanks for your continued support.
